What a beautiful ring! It’s a lot less gaudy than some of the other celebrity rings out there, but still very extravagant–a stunning (5-carat!) diamond and the platinum setting is very classy to say the least. I’d argue that platinum is just a trend, though…it actually has a lot of practical benefits, such as durability, and has been popular for ages. It probably just seems like a trend because more people are buying it now since the cost is lower than usual.

I’m sure most people don’t buy platinum rings just because they are popular or because celebrities buy them. Platinum is popular because of the many benefits it has over other metals (some of which the article mentions)–durability, rarity, and so on.
