Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon Watch

The new Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon Watch Sous Trois Ponts d’Or boats a case, in 18kt rose gold, measures 41mm. It has double sapphire crystals and is water resistant to 30 meters. This is a prime example of Girard-Perregaux watches sleek and smart. This watch will debut at Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2010

The Tourbillon is an addition to the mechanics of a watch escapement.
Invented in 1795 by Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet, a tourbillon counters the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, ostensibly in order to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece (and thus the escapement) is rotated.

Originally an attempt to improve accuracy, tourbillons are still included in some expensive modern watches as a novelty and demonstration of watchmaking virtuosity. As is true in the Girard-Perregaux watch.

The mechanism is usually exposed on the watch’s face to show it off. Movement is the automatic in-house GP caliber GP9600C with 30 jewels, beating at 21,600 bph and with a power reserve of 48 hours. It has a Tourbillon complication.
