Lip Watches exhibits new collection Lip 2010 at the Artazart Gallery
Written by Alex Wolpo
With a passion for design, Serge Bensimon, creator of the fashion brand of the same name, together with the founders of the Artazart bookshop, invited Lip to present a preview of its new “Lip 2010″ collection in their gallery-bookshop along the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris. For 3 months, from 4th June to 13th September, Lip will reveal its entire range of automatic watches, inspired by the brand’s emblematic models:
“Automythic”
An automatic version of the “Mythic” range created by Prisca Briquet, the brand’s in-house designer, which has the specific feature of displaying the time in an unusual way: it isn’t the hands that turn around the dial, but three dials (hours, minutes, seconds), which turn under a fixed hand.
“Automythic” is currently available in 5 different models, all water-resistant to 5 bars:
- – brushed black steel case, black dial with red hands and numerals, smooth black leather strap
- – brushed two color black/silver steel case with silver colored numerals and red hand, black grained leather strap
- – two color black/yellow gold color case, black dial with gold colored hand and numerals, smooth black leather strap
- – black brushed steel case and band, black dial with red hand and numerals
- – silver colored brushed steel case and band matching the numerals on the black dial with a red hand.
“Big TV Type A”
Equipped with an automatic movement, this range refers to the collection of the same name designed in 1975 by Roger Tallon, the designer of the French TGV (high speed train).
The square case (35 x 35 mm), water-resistant to 5 bars, in matt, brushed or polished steel, comes in a variety of colors (brown, black or two colors, black/yellow gold). The dial, bare or with indices, and the leather or steel strap, use the same brown or black shades as the case.
Big TV Type A: Automatic watch, brown brushed steel case and band, brown dial (ref. 187 22 12)
de Baschmakoff: black steel case, water-resistant to 5 bars, white grained leather strap (ref. 187 13 A)
Visitors to the exhibition can also discover, or rediscover, a major retrospective of LIP watches created, at the beginning of the seventies, by 2 well-known avant-garde designers and recreated by the brand:
- - Roger Tallon, who signed several ranges: Diode, Fridge, TV, Big TV and the Mach 2000, famous for its crowns and buttons in the shape of coloured balls,
- - Prince François de Baschmakoff, inventor of the watch that bears his name, on which the time is read on rotating discs.
