Longines Silver Arrow Watch
Written by James Matthews
The Silver Arrow is a new edition of a 1955 Longines model. The case, in stainless steel, measures 38.5mm. The crystal is hesalite and it is water resistant to 30 meters. Movement is the automatic Longines caliber L619 (base ETA 2892-A2) with a power reserve of 42 hours.
This watch has a hesalite crystle. Hesalite is the trade name for an advanced synthetic (plastic) crystal. It’s an improvement over older acrylic crystals, but it’s nowhere near as hard as sapphire. The advantages are that it’s lighter, it’s not as inherently shiny, so it has less glare, it’s shatterproof, and if it gets scratched, you can polish out the scratches. Also, since it’s easier to work, you’re more likely to find glare reducing domed surfaces on a Hesalite crystal than a sapphire one, although many sapphire watch crystals are domed as well. It’s just not as common
