rosolino1Massimiliano Rosolino is the most successful athlete in the history of Italian swimming has joined the team of Omega Watch spokespersons. This marks another champion from the world of swimming is joining the exclusive team of OMEGA spokespersons, adding his name to others who have made their mark on the history of this sport, such as Michael Phelps, Alexander Popov, and Ian Thorpe.

Thirty years old last July and a champion in four Olympic Games, from Atlanta to Beijing, Massimiliano Rosolino is the most successful athlete in the history of Italian swimming. Among his trophies are 60 medals, won in the most important meets, including his gold from Sydney in the 200 individual medley.

And the story continues: Massimiliano will be one of the stars at the next World Championships in Rome 2009, which will also feature the Swiss watchmaking house OMEGA continuing in the prestigious role of Official Timekeeper.

Known to the public for his numerous television appearances and for his collaboration with the Italian sports publication “La Gazzetta dello Sport,” the champion is also involved in social issues in his role as spokesperson for the non-profit campaign “Acqua per il Burundi” (Water for Burundi), dedicated to the construction of wells for bringing water to even the most remote villages of this African country.

Rosolino now adds OMEGA Ambassador to his many commitments. “Collaborating with OMEGA,” remarks Massimiliano, β€œis a matter of great pride as well as great interest to me, because I will have the opportunity to train using techniques that are at the forefront of timekeeping. OMEGA has made sports history and is universally recognized for the quality of its technical instruments and watches, which adds another level of incentive to arrive punctually … in the most important races or at press events. In addition, being the sole Italian athlete in an international team that includes celebrities of the caliber of Phelps inspires me to do all I can to be a good host in a few months in Rome.”

The champion from Naples is a great wristwatch enthusiast and is never apart from his OMEGA Seamaster, inscribed with his name, that the Swiss watchmaker presented him as a gift after his 2000 victory in Sydney. Rosolino has said that he loves OMEGA timepieces because they express the good taste of those who wear them. In fact, in recent years he has collected several Seamaster Planet Ocean timepieces, in addition to some more classic models to wear on more elegant occasions.

The role of Official Timekeeper at 23 Olympic Games has allowed OMEGA to promote strong ties with swimming. Over the years OMEGA has developed key technologies for this sport in both timekeeping and competition classifications, including the Swim Eight-O-Matic Timer (the first semiautomatic timer in the industry), as well as the famous “touch pads” (which allow the swimmer to stop the clock by barely grazing the underwater panels at each end of the pool lanes), and the revolutionary Live Timing technology.

With this high level of experience and recognition that has no peer among other watch brands, OMEGA is proud to announce its participation in the “13th FINA World Championships – Roma 2009″ in the important role of Official Timekeeper.
