Q & A With Hublot on WiseKey
Written by Nathan
BaselWorld 2009 was great! We had a great chance to meet with many luxury watch companies. One of the many new things introduced at BaselWorld 2009 was the Hublot WiseKey. Hublot has decided to take counterfeit fighting to a 21st century by providing smart card authentication with every hublot watch.
JewelersLounge sat down with Hublot to discuss this new system.
JewelersLounge: Can you please describe the steps that a new watch owner will go through in order to authenticate their new watch?
Hublot: Sure! When someones buys a hublot watch after august 2009 they will receiving two extra items. 1. A WiseKey smart card (pictured below) 2. A smart card reader. The watch owner then plugs the card reader into his computer and puts the card into the reader. He then goes to the hublot website and enters in his WiseKey ID. The website confirms that this is a legitimate watch.
JewelersLounge: What happends after the user authenticates his watch?
Hublot: They are offered to sign-up to a watch social network. In which they can see other Hublot watch owners and enter in information on other watches they have purchased. It will offer them a way to connect with there fellow watch owners.
JewelersLounge: What happends if you see a large group of computers failing to authenticate?
Hublot: Nothing has been decided at this point but we are not ruling out getting customs involved etc..
JewelersLounge: That’s all for now. thank you for your time
It was a great interview in which we were able to see a presentation of the new watch social network. We are very excited about this. As usual if you have any questions please post them in the comments and we will pass them onto Hublot.
