MASKED raiders who stole watches worth thousands of pounds may have been members of a professional gang, it has been
claimed.
Two men, wearing caps, hoods and scarves, smashed their way into Lister Horsfall jewelry shop on Corn Market, Halifax, and yesterday.
They forced open the front door grille and shattered the lower window before bursting into the shop and taking Omega watches – James Bond’s latest timepiece of choice – Anonimo watches and gold jewelry.
After studying
CCTV images, manager Nick Horsfall said he believed the burglary was the work of professional and highly organized criminals. “The speed at which they got into the shop was incredible”, he said. “It looked like the work of professionals. They knew what they wanted.
“The CCTV is not the best quality because it’s dark but they are good cameras so we’re hoping something will come from that.”
Mr Horsfall, whose family has owned the business for four generations, said he discovered the raid when he arrived for work at 5.30am.
Mark McManus, of Calderdale CID, said police were checking town-centre CCTV.
He urged anyone with information to come forward. He said the two men wore dark clothing, one with a light-colored baseball cap, the other wearing a scarf wrapped round his face. They were carrying a large tartan bag.
