Jaeger-LeCoultre is diverting from the usual luxury watches that we all know and love. They have created a sporting watch. It has the usual Jaeger-LeCoultre complex dial but this one goes a little further….

On February 16th, Jaeger-LeCoultre will begin an online auction of one prototype of the model Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Tides of Time, from its SIHH 2009 collection.

Symbolising the “Tides of Time” partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the International Herald Tribune, this timepiece associates two of the Manufacture’s emblematic complications: an alarm and the simultaneous display of the time in 24 time zones.

Three of the cities on its outer dial ring have been replaced by three natural sites Scandola, Galapagos and Tubbataha – inscribed on the World Heritage List benefiting from a dedicated preservation programme supported by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Proceeds from the auction will go to a World Heritage project identified by UNESCO. Jaeger-LeCoultre is involved in a three-year partnership with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the International Herald Tribune to help promote, protect and safeguard outstanding marine sites that require specific immediate intervention.

Patek Philippe, the world-renowned Geneva-based manufacture is celebrating the 40th birthday of its legendary Golden Ellipse watch family with a platinum version and an exclusive two-watch set with matching jewelry. These Luxury Watches are unique.

The case of the extra larger model measures 39 x 34 mm and is 5.6mm high. The case for the regular model is 35mm x 31mm. Both feature sapphire crystals and are water resistant to 30 meters. The dial is 18kt blue gold, and the hands and indices are 18kt white gold.

Movement is the ultra-thin (2.5mm high) automatic Patek caliber 240 with 27 jewels, beating at 21,600 bph and with a power reserve of 48 hours. The rotor is 22kt solid gold and the movement features the Geneva Seal.

Jack Forster has written an excellent article on mechanical watches. It all began in 1757, a young watchmaker named Pierre Jaquet-Droz, from the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Swiss Jura, undertook a long and hazardous journey from Switzerland to Madrid. Jaquet-Droz, who later became the celebrated creator of some of the 18th century’s most spectacular automata (robot-like figurines capable of executing complex movements, such as writing and playing musical instruments), brought with him six clocks, which he presented, after a month-and-a-half-long journey and another five months’ wait for an appointment, to the King and Queen of Spain. The risky and expensive trip was a resounding success. We now have large amounts of luxury watches now that enjoy these gains.

A. Lange & Sohne – Richard Lange Pour le Merite  This Limited Edition of 50 Pieces in Platinum and 200 Pieces in 18kt Rose Gold. The case measures 40.5mm x 10.5mm. It has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 30 meters. The dial is enamel with blued steel hands. This luxury watches movement Movement is the manual wind Lange in-house caliber L044.1 with fusee and chain transmission, decorated and assembled by hand. It has 33 jewels, beats at 21,600 bph and has a power reserve of 36 hours. The movement consists of 279 parts (the chain set-up has 636 parts). This past November, Nela König and His Royal Highness Prince Leopold von Bayern visited the Carl F. Bucherer watch workshops in Lengnau. The brand’s ambassadress and the passionate watch enthusiast were fascinated with the traditional handiwork and the personal insight into watch craftsmanship.

Since Fall of 2008, Nela König has been brand protagonist of Carl F. Bucherer. For years, the 37-year-old Berliner has been travelling all over the world as a much in demand photographer, mostly making portraits of world celebrities from the film and music industry. “In a world, where there is an excess of almost every product, a watch company rich in tradition such as Carl F. Bucherer, for whom the highest regard for precision, the greatest technical demands and a self-willed approach are important, is rather unusual”, Nela König explains her new commitment to the Lucerne watchmaker.

As a former racing driver, Prince Leopold von Bayern is fascinated by technical things and an equally passionate watch owner as car enthusiast. “My special passion is chronographs, like the Patravi TravelTec by Carl F. Bucherer. These luxury watches are closely linked to my earlier racing career and remind me of those exciting times.”

The case has 54 diamonds and the dial 8. The City ring is set with 15 diamonds and the crowns are decorated by onyx cabochons.

Movement is the automatic GP in-house caliber GP033GO with 27 jewels, beating at 28,800 bph and with a power reserve of 46 hours. Functions are hour, minute, small seconds, power reserve indicator, and shopping world time with day/night indicator.
