Watch Review Debaufre Magnum 44
Initial Impressions
When the watch first arrived from Debaufre in their usual priority mail box. The watch was very well packaged and shipped. They include the customary Debaufre Red/Black presentation box, warranty card and paperwork. The presentation box is very nice and one to hang on to.
When I took it out, the first thing I said was “WOW, This thing is BIG!”. The reason they call it the Magnum 44 is that its 44mm across the case, not including the crown.
The modern trend is to the larger watches, and most diver homages to the big “R” dont even approach this size, which tend to stay at 40mm. Debaufres normal Ocean 1 is a respectable 42mm and the Magnum is the real “mans” size at 44mm. For you guys that enjoy the larger watches, this one fits the bill perfectly.
Construction
The watch is constructed like a beast. It features very finely made 316L construction. The owner of Debaufre, personally ensures quality control in Switzerland over these watches and spends half of the year doing work there, even though his office is in the US. This is apparent when you view the case and materials used.
Along with the 316L case, it features Sapphire Crystal, a Screw Down crown and back which gives it a whopping 1000 ft water resistance! A real Diver! It also features Super Luminova C1 on the dial for great Lume at night. The movement is a Swiss Rhonda Quartz movement and mine has been accurate within 2 seconds a month so far! The Oyster style bracelet is fabulous with solid end links and better yet…screws for the links! The over all weight of the watch is 6.8 oz. Along with the 44mm case, shes also 13mm thick, making it fine to wear under a suit or long shirt.
As seen in these specifications, this is not a cheaply made watch..it features all the requirements for a watch double or triple the price they offer it for, currently at $275 !! They were able to keep the price down, yet the quality up by using the Swiss Quartz movement in lieu of the automatic movement in this one.
